Red crab migration
The red crab is by far the most obvious of the 14 species of land crabs on Christmas Island. Every year over 150 million red crabs move from inland shelters to the shore for their annual breeding season. This occurs at the beginning of the wet season (usually October/November).
The main migration can last up to 18 days. Masses of crabs gather into broad columns as they move toward the coast, climbing down high inland cliff faces, and over or around all obstacles in their way, following routes used year after year for both downward and return migrations.
Movement peaks in the early morning and late afternoons when it is cooler and there is more shade. Because if caught in open areas, in unshaded heat, the crabs soon lose body water and die.
Christmas Island is a small Australian-owned territory located in the Indian Ocean, approximately 300 miles south of Jakarta, Indonesia. A small population of 1600 residents live on the area of 50 square miles.

Ed Helms is amazing. And I think his reaction to this whole thing is amazing. He’s so sweet about it. I mean, he’s creeped out, but he says so in a nice way. Also, he implied that if we raised enough money, he’d provide his voice for a Once-ler porno. He didn’t say it, but he totally fucking implied it.
Also, the fact that he addressed the fandom publicly means that more people than ever will be looking into Oncest!
This fandom will keep biggering and biggering and no one can stop it!

I quite tumblr over a year ago because it was such a large timesink. I guess the once-ler fandom has fully lured me back into using my blog again…. augh, I’m never going to get anything done anymore.
Anyways, this is a concept sketch of char I am going to model for a 3d animation project. No references. I decided he is a magician named Tchelio. I was kind of inspired by dr seuss-y things :P

PART 2
Nice!! But now Georgia presents…CHARACTER ANIMATION+DESIGN SPIEL.
Something about the Once-ler has been bugging me for weeks now: he’s constantly dancing over the line between “uncanny valley” and “ridiculously appealing to the point of seductive”. I mean, some moments (especially concerning his teeth and cheeks area) in his face animation have made me think “this will be in my nightmares tonight.” For example, image 2 in the photoset above.
But you can tell he’s obviously been designed to be appealing, with very direct homages to Seuss’s drawings (the nearness of his eyes, his button nose and eyelashes, etc.), and there’s something just…fascinating about his face. I mean fascinating in the sense that we cannot look away. Something about how the shapes are arranged, for instance, those quirky shapes of his mouth, that is alien to us, and just slightly disturbing. His teeth should not cut that far into his cheek. His mouth should not open that wide…and so, being human, we stare with utter fascination.
In all honesty I am on the fence about whether or not this was intentional. Did the animators mean to seduce us with these alien compositions, knowing full well that we cannot resist something so tantalizing as things that slightly disturb us? Or am I reading way too much into this after eating too many donettes? The jury’s still out but judging by the detail and superb art direction of this film I’m gonna bet that they were at least going for something of the sort.
I mean maybe. For now go about your business.
